This is an archive of field recordings, currently spanning eleven countries and eighteen cities worldwide. The project commenced in May 2006. It continues. We are interested in finding sounds of cities, of places, of people, how we locate ourselves in and through sound.

We are arranged by Location (recorded in) & Category (assigned) at the moment. Assignations may change, much as we do. Enjoy.

To play / download a selected sound click on the play / download button of the individual piece. If you want to hear a selected sound on the page you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the pause button for the embedded player first otherwise you will hear both sounds at once. You may want to do this though in order to achieve a weird mashup effect. It's up to you.
